2026 Miami Grand Prix: Max Spun, Five Drivers Led and Kimi Stayed Cool
Before the race even started, Miami already felt like a full entertainment show. Messi was visiting Mercedes, Serena Williams was with Ferrari and Rafael Nadal was there to wave the chequered flag.
Honestly, I was looking around the paddock almost as much as I was watching the grid.
But then I saw Kimi on pole with Max beside him and suddenly, celebrities could wait.
The lights went out, both Kimi and Max locked up at Turn 1, and Leclerc somehow escaped with the lead.
Then Max spun.
I had barely settled into the race and my favourite driver was already facing the wrong direction. Brilliant start for me…
After that, the race just refused to calm down. We had crashes, a Safety Car and five different drivers leading at some point. Every time I thought someone had taken control, another car appeared at the front.
At one stage Max even led the race, and I started thinking he might rescue the whole thing. But Red Bull had put him on the hard tyres too early, and those tyres eventually had enough of Miami.
Kimi, Leclerc and Norris kept changing the story at the front. Piastri also joined the fight and wasn’t impressed with Russell’s defending, calling it “super dangerous” on the radio.
That radio message definitely added a little extra spice.
Eventually, Kimi took the lead and Norris started hunting him. Kimi was reporting downshift problems, Norris was dealing with his own front-wing issue, and I was sitting there wondering which car would complain first.
But Kimi stayed calm and won his third race in a row. Three races, three victories. Okay Kimi, we understand now – you are not here to behave like a rookie.
Piastri finished third, while Russell quietly worked his way into fourth. Max recovered to fifth after the spin, old tyres and a penalty. Not the Miami race I wanted for him, but somehow he still collected decent points from that mess.
Leclerc’s race ended painfully. He lost places late, touched the wall and then received another penalty after the finish. Ferrari started the race in front and somehow finished wondering where everything went.
I rate the 2026 Miami Grand Prix a solid A2W 9/10.
Messi watched, Nadal waved the flag, Max performed a 360 and Kimi still left Miami looking like the calmest person there.
