Williams F1 Team Gave Their Car a Doctor Doom Look But I Want It on the Grid as Well.
Dear Williams F1 Team, I like this. I really do. But you cannot show me a Doctor Doom-inspired F1 car, tell me it is coming to Austin and then quietly explain that nobody is actually racing it. WHAT??? I was already looking forward to seeing that green and black going around the circuit.
Now I have to admire it standing still. Lovely. My excitement has been given a parking space.
Before we get carried away, this is a specially decorated FW48 show car for the Williams Fan Zone in Austin during the United States Grand Prix week. Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz will not be racing with this design. It first appeared at New York Comic Con as part of Williams’ Marvel collaboration, celebrating Avengers: Doomsday.

Which explains the villain makeover, although I still think it deserves a little time on the track. Surely Doctor Doom did not get dressed up just to stand in a fan zone.
The green and black combination works for me. It gives the Williams a darker, meaner personality, and moving away from the familiar blue makes the whole thing feel different. I like that you can immediately tell something has changed without someone circling a tiny detail in a photograph and explaining where to look.
I have always loved it when F1 teams change their cars’ looks for a race. There is something about seeing a familiar car wearing something different that makes me pay attention all over again. I start imagining how it will look coming out of the garage, under the lights or alongside the other cars, and suddenly I am looking forward to the weekend for one more reason.

That is why the show-car detail hurts a little here. I like the design, but I want to see it moving as well. The fans in Austin get to walk around it and take their pictures, while the rest of us are left wondering how good it might have looked heading into Turn 1.
Yes, I know this is promotion. Williams and Marvel want our attention, and here I am giving them an entire blog. Apparently, their plan is going quite well.

There is a proper connection behind it too. Williams’ Marvel collaboration includes the comic Iron Man: Racing Towards Doom, with Albon, Sainz and James caught up in a battle against Doctor Doom. As though managing an F1 weekend did not already give James enough to worry about, now somebody wants him involved in superhero problems as well.
If you are only interested in the movie and not F1, I have something for you too: my Avengers: Doomsday trailer review.
Looking at this, Williams has also made me think we should have our own livery ratings here on Ankit2World. That is not a bad shout, actually. We could look at the regular designs, the special race looks and even show cars like this, then decide which ones deserve the attention and which ones need to go back for another bath.
For now, this Marvel Doctor Doom Williams gets my approval. It has made me stop, look and wish it were joining the grid, which is probably the nicest complaint I can give a show car. Right?
Williams, if you ever decide to let it out for a race, you are inviting me.
