Formula 1 is heading to Madrid and everyone is excited about the brand new track called the MADRING circuit. Though it’s not the first time for Spanish Grand Prix as F1 is returning to Madrid after long 45 years. The last race happen in jarama in 1981.
We can easily can say: Madrid is not joining Formula 1. It is coming back and yes we all are excited.
Everything about this weekend will feel new. MADRING F1 Circuit runs around the IFEMA Madrid exhibition centre and combines public roads with specially built racing sections just the semi-Monaco and none of the drivers has raced an F1 car here before, which makes it even more exciting not only for us but the drivers as well.
The part I am most interested in is La Monumental, a long banked corner with an incline of up to 24%. It has space for around 45,000 fans and already looks like the section every camera will focus on. Let us hope it produces brave overtakes rather than an expensive collection of broken front wings. Whew…
The best part is that Madrid appears to be treating the Grand Prix like a city-wide event. Formula 2 and Formula 3 will support the main race, while fan zones and entertainment are planned around the circuit and across the city. Even big names like Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid will join the local events & supporters, because apparently even football rivals can agree when Formula 1 arrives in town.
How can we forget about ‘Carlos Sainz’ who will finally have a proper home race, which should create one of the loudest reactions of the weekend. Fernando Alonso will receive plenty of love too.
On the track, the race day I expect the main fight to be between Lando Norris, Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. A completely new circuit should reward the drivers and teams that understand it quickly, and all three arrive with something to prove.
Kimi has the confidence of someone who just won his home race from 19th on the grid. Lando remains quick enough to fight whenever McLaren gives him the opportunity, while Russell led for most of the race at Monza before finishing second.
But this time, I genuinely want Russell to win. I have a reason behind it…
Watching sections of the Monza crowd boo George while he stood on the podium did not feel right. I personally felt bad for him. Supporting Kimi at his home race was completely understandable, but Russell had done nothing wrong. He raced hard, finished second and helped Mercedes secure a brilliant result.
I would love to see him respond by winning in Madrid. Go Diva, I mean Russell
My prediction is Russell for the victory, with Kimi and Lando completing the podium. Of course, a new circuit could destroy that prediction before Friday practice ends, but that uncertainty is exactly why I am excited.
F1 is returning to Madrid after 45 years. New circuit, new atmosphere and absolutely no idea what will happen. but Come on, George. Let the trophy make more noise than the boos.
