Movie Review: BlackPanther: Star Movies invited Me (Ankit2World) for Star Movies Secret Screening. I feel lucky as this is my 20th #StarMoviesSecretScreening Special Thanks to Star Movies India for all the invitations. The event took place in Select City Walk, Delhi. I took my friend ‘Kalyan’ along with me, as he is the biggest comics movie fan I know.
‘Black Panther’ is 2018’s most acclaimed comics book movie and no wonder it got 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. I regret to accept it, but I have to say that Tony Stark’s empire is nothing compared to the wealth and nation of ‘Wakanda’ which is home to Black Panther. For those who don’t know ‘Wakanda’ is rich in Vibranium reserves and it’s the only place where it’s found. Captain America’s Shield is built of Vibranium which is considered to be the hardest metal on earth in the Marvel Universe. Howard Stark, Father of Tony Stark was the first one to discover Vibranium in comics with Wakanda’s King who was Black Panther’s Father and he made Captain America’s Shield which is showcased in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger. Despite being rich in resources and wealth ‘Wakanda’ still stays like a Sub-African down to earth, third world country.
Spoilers Alert: Quick Short Synopsis:
T’Challa aka Black Panther played by ‘Chadwick Boseman’ becomes the king of Wakanda after the death of his father T’Chaka, who died in Captain America Civil War. Actor ‘Chadwick’ has played the Black Panther role quite well. The story of Black Panther starts in Wakanda and Ends in Wakanda. Marvel has succeeded in showing the reign of Black Panther and its African traditions very well. The best part of the Black Panther movie is that it doesn’t revolve completely around the main character, instead, the story shows more of Wakanda and Vibranium history.
T’Challa aka Black Panther learns his father’s secret of killing his own brother and leaving his small son behind, outside Wakanda. That Son ‘Erik Killmonger’ is now revengeful and want to take on T’Chaka’s family and Wakanda kingdom. Erik Killmonger is played by wonderful actor ‘Micheal B. Jordan’. Killmonger gains entrance in Wakanda by killing Wakanda’s oldest enemy ‘Ulysses Klaue’ who was the biggest smuggler of Vibranium. After gaining entry in Wakanda Erik Killmonger challenges T’Challa for the throne as he is the royal blood too. T’Challa aka Black Panther goes soft on Killmonger and almost gets killed by him. Killmonger becomes the new king of Wakanda with only one objective, capture and conquer the world with the technology and power of Wakanda’s Vibranium. But Black Panther and his allies fight Killmonger to stop him from doing so.
Believe me, The technology and weapons of Wakanda are such that Tony Stark’s lab seems like an old school laboratory but I love Tony Stark aka Iron Man and will always continue the same.
Actions in the movie are good but not amazing as Marvel has already showcased pretty amazing actions and stunts in the past series and has set our expectations quite high. Also, if you are expecting a Marvel type movie & superheroes story, you’ll end up disappointed, so my suggestion to keep your head clear as it’s a complete different storyline and superhero altogether.
The movie was bit slow for me but begins to grip by the second half. If you haven’t watched previous Marvel Cinematic movies like Captain America series and Civil War you will definitely feel disconnected with the Black Panther. Also, if you are expecting a sneak peek to Avengers Infinity War, stop right now because the movie is completely focused on Black Panther and Wakanda.
End Credit Scene:
Seems like T-Challa’s sister has found a way to fix Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier and he is grateful to her. Also, the end line says ‘Black Panther will return in Avengers Infinity War’
I rate the movie 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
Saw it before you
