2026 British Grand Prix: Leclerc Won While Kimi and Max Had a Sunday to Forget
Silverstone always feels different. It feels like home—the crowd, the history and three British drivers capable of winning. I naturally expected the weekend to belong to one of them.
Even the Drivers’ Parade became a race. The drivers were given individual LEGO cars, and within minutes Max was bumping into Lando, cars were going into the gravel and Norris had to give Sainz a lift after his car stopped. Alonso eventually reached the finish first because apparently these drivers cannot even complete a friendly parade without trying to win it.
I also loved Hannah Waddingham’s moment with Martin Brundle. She stopped to speak with him and treated him like the most important person in F1. After watching celebrities ignore Martin at other races, this was how it should be done. Finally, someone giving the legend the respect he deserves.
Well, Kimi had other plans on Saturday. He won the Sprint race and later set the fastest lap in Qualifying. This meant he would start Sunday’s main race from first place. Kimi had done everything right so far, but Sunday was a very different story.
Leclerc made a fantastic start and immediately passed Kimi for the lead. Hamilton also passed him, dropping Kimi from first to third before they had even completed the opening lap.
Kimi managed to pass Hamilton later and moved back into second. He then started closing the gap to Leclerc, and I genuinely thought we were about to see a proper fight for the win.
Then Kimi’s car developed a problem. Sob: Sob: The left-front wheel shield broke and his car would not turn properly. When Bono told him Mercedes wanted to bring the car in, Kimi still argued that he could continue. Kimi, the car is not turning. Maybe this is the right time to stop arguing, lol.
Mercedes called him into the pits twice to fix it, and he also received a five-second penalty. After winning the Sprint and starting the main race from first, Kimi eventually finished 16th without scoring a single point. Ahhh man, what a terrible way to end such a brilliant weekend.
Max started the race from seventh and slowly began moving forward. He was already unhappy with the car and complained on the radio, “The downshifts are so ****.” LOL. Despite the problem, he passed Russell and continued fighting for a decent result. Then, with only four laps remaining, Max went into the gravel at Stowe and retired. AAAHHHHH! Why Max, why?
I had already watched Kimi’s race fall apart, and now my favourite was sitting in the gravel. Max’s crash brought out the Safety Car, and the race finished without restarting. There was even a Virtual Safety Car earlier because an umbrella had blown beside the track. Yes, an umbrella affected an F1 race. Silverstone didn’t even need rain to create weather-related drama.
During the final Safety Car, Hamilton stopped for fresh tyres while Russell stayed on the track. That decision moved Russell into second place ahead of Hamilton. Because the race never restarted, Russell kept second and Hamilton finished third. Norris came home fourth, giving the Silverstone crowd three British drivers directly behind Leclerc.
I wanted Max to recover and then hoped Kimi might challenge for the win, but neither happened. Leclerc made the best start, avoided the problems around him and won his first race of the season.
I rate the 2026 British Grand Prix a solid A2W 8.5/10.
Kimi started first, Max gave me hope, LEGO cars started crashing and an umbrella stopped the race—but Leclerc was the only one still smiling at the end.
